The Top 11 Best Fictional Band Names

It was ridiculously hard at times, trying to come up with decent, credible sounding band names for ‘Screaming In Public’, but also very fun. I tended to find that my best sources of inspiration for it were manga comic books, newspaper headlines or articles, and random bits of popular culture. In trying to define what I liked about certain band names I – very sadly – made a list of already taken band names in other novels. The random mix of novels reflects, I think, the random nature of my reading habits, and also the random areas in which rock’n’roll and fiction collide…

11) The Last Days (Scott Westerfeld, The Last Days)

10) Plastic Fantastic (Simon Cheshire, Plastic Fantastic)

9) Big Troll And Some Other Trolls (Terry Pratchett, Soul Music)

8) We’re Certainly Dwarfs (Terry Pratchett, Soul Music)

7) Twisted Mofo (Linda Jaivin, Rock’N’Roll Babes From Outer Space)

6) The Hormones (Sarra Manning, Guitar Girl)

5) Bubblegum Crisis (Manga, Bubblegum Crisis)

4) Skinner Box (Meg Cabot, The Princess Diaries)

3) Prik Harness (Linda Jaivin, Rock’N’Roll Babes From Outer Space)

2.) Crap Sandwich (Roger Burt, The Melanie Pluckrose Effect)

1) The Flesh Eating Fetish Bitches (Eugene Egner, Androids From Milk)

    I can think of “She laughs” in I wanna be your Joey Ramone by Stephanie Kuehner (a sample of the playlist that I got from the book: Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash, Don’t take me for granted by Social Distortion, Ask the angels by Patty Smith, Lust for life by Iggy Pop, I wanna be your Joey Ramone by Sleater-Kinney)

      Hi Emily,

      If you like I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone, you might like The Last Days, though it depends how keen you are on Vampires… it works though, and it isn’t an insipid Twilight type thing. You might also like the film ‘All Over Me’.

      I tried ‘…Joey Ramone’, I really did try, I so wanted to love it… yet I couldn’t get into the heroine at all… I think I might be a bit finicky.

      Thanks for getting in touch though, it’s nice to get some reccomendations and feedback going. :}

    I can’t get into vampires. I tried really hard but nothing works, I haven’t read The Last Days though, I’ll make sure to check this one.

    I hate to burst your bubble on this, but Prik Harness was an actual band name. The members were friends of Linda’s and she put the band in the novel. They were later known as P Harness. 🙂
